Pharmacies acting as training sites for foundation year trainee pharmacists in the 2025-26 academic year will be paid £795 more than last year, it has been revealed.
The decision to increase the funding for training sites from £26,500 to £27,295 per trainee comes as NHS England takes on the responsibility for the management of the foundation training programme from the General Pharmaceutical Council.
“The increased payments will be made automatically to all eligible training sites, including back-dated payments to the start date of the trainee pharmacist,” said Community Pharmacy England as it informed contractors of the development.
“There is nothing additional that training sites need to do to receive the uplifted payment.”
The funding contribute to the costs of hosting a trainee, such as salary costs, administration and supervision.
There is no national funding available to help training sites provide trainees with access to a designated prescribing practitioner, whose supervision is required to help trainees gain their independent prescribing qualification and practise as pharmacists from this year onwards.
